Router Table
Accessories
If you are into woodworking
and haven't already installed a router table in your shop, then it is probably high time you
should.
Having such a tool adds
immense versatility to your work and can help you build pieces of furniture you haven't even
dreamed of.
Once you have built or
purchased your own router table, it's time to equip it with accessories.
|
First and foremost, it is highly recommended to purchase
(or build yourself, since you are a new expert in furniture) a wood cabinet for your table, to keep all your
accessories. In time, you will have so many of them that it will be hard and uncomfortable, to say the least,
to keep them all lying around your woodworking shop.
There are so many router table accessories
out there, that it's impossible not to find one that would fit your needs. But, if you are new to woodworking,
which ones should you start with?
To start with, many professionals have chosen
an All-in-one Router Plate Kit. It is sold in the range of $30-$40 and offers you everything you need to mount a
router to its table. This accessory will support any router, and includes magnets and adjustable screws to secure
and level the plate and also concentric rings at the bottom, for easy alignment when installing the
device.
The Power Switch is another of the router
accessories that is inexpensive and definitely a must. No more reaching under the table, to turn the router off,
this switch mounts on the table directly, coming as a great safety enhancement. Equipped with a removable lock, it
can prevent accidental usage, so you can have other people walking in your woodworking shop without any fears.
Testimonials show that using this heavy duty power switch has made working on the routing table a real
joy.

Another routing table accessory, which has once made it Wood Magazine's Editor Choice, is the
Heavy Duty Router Speed Control device. With seamless integration on the routing table, it allows you to work at
the best speed, depending on the router bit and the quality of wood you are using. A turn button allows you to set
a speed from 0 RPM to “Full”. It is also one of the most affordable accessories, being sold usually below $50.
Last, but not least, another safety related
routing table accessory is highly recommended: the Coping Safety Super Sled. It helps you keep your fingers away
from sharp edges or the spinning blade and can be the perfect accessory for cross-grain rail cuts. In case of tear
out, the backer block is replaceable. It also comes with a strong holding clamp with a special abrasive strip for
keeping your material fixed, and can withhold weights of up to 500 lbs. Again, this is quite an inexpensive
accessory, being sold in the range of $30-$50.
All the big brand names associated with
router tables offer these types of router accessories; those names include Bosch, Freud, Kreg, Dremel, Bench Dog,
and more. As with other types of woodcarving
tools, when shopping for routing table accessories, keep in mind that most online retailers may offer
you significant discounts as compared to bricks and mortar stores. Happy shopping!
