Horizontal Router Tables

The router is an essential tool of nearly any woodworking activity. The right router locked on the right router table can provide safe, elegant and accurate work.

The horizontal router table redefines the use of router table with its design and safety features. Cutting patterns is made fairly simple and safe with the ingenious idea behind the development of horizontal router table.

Conventional router tables have the router installed to the underside of the table. A small hole, tiny enough for the bit to protrude, is specially made to allow the cutting tool to do the job. Guides are also needed to be installed on the router table to make cuts more accurate.

The horizontal router table on the other hand is made to answer the limitations of the conventional router table. Instead of mounting the router to the underside of the table, the horizontal router is safely locked at the side of the router table with the bit extending to the side.

Workers can safely cut and create patterns without the risk of getting hurt. The wood that needs to be cut must be positioned horizontally, with the side to be carved touching the bit of the router. This also reduces the risk of injury to the worker since the bits are not exposed.

The horizontal router table is also designed to allow the router to be adjusted. By simply turning the knobs, securing the router to its position will free the locks. Turning the crank slightly will adjust the router together with bit to the desired height.

In most designs, one full turn of the crank is 1/64th of an inch. With precise measures, workers are sure that the cuts made on the wood are accurate. Locking the horizontal router back into position can be done by turning the knobs back to the opposite side. By adjusting the position of the bit, the cuts made to the wood are also adjusted.

With the adjustable design, variations of designs and cuts can be made. Crown molding is made really easy with only few adjustments that need to be done on the position of the bit.

The bits are also very important components of the entire horizontal router table. The bits define the patterns and cutting sequences that need to be done. When opting for a horizontal router table, be sure to acquire the right combination of bits. Specific designs require the use of specific bits. Cutting wood for raised panel, mortise and tenon, and crown molding are just some of the designs that require different types of router bits.

In additional to your wood working chisels and other tools, horizontal router tables are a great addition to your wood working shop!
